Hey Style Slayers!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine’s Day. I spent the day (also my birthday) with my daughter Abigail at the mall and enjoying the mild, sunny weather.
I’ve decided to start a new style series on fashionmamaaquarius.com that consists of quick style posts with more pictures and less reading. This will allow me to post more frequently and will give you a quicker read.
In this post, I show you how to wear a Menswear-Inspired coat like this one I picked up from Mango this past fall.
The neutral-coloured Coat has a small herringbone pattern which makes it extremely versatile. I love the roomier fit, wide collar and double-breasted design. I find it looks great with dresses, skirts and trousers; the oversized fit makes it a bit less dressy which is a nice contrast.
This mostly neutral look consists of a pink knit sweater (Calvin Klein) tucked into cropped black jeans (Old Navy Rockstar Denim DIY cropped) with brown Chelsea boots (Aldo (Meaven) last season), a Tory Burch handbag, a rose gold watch (Capitol) and tassel earrings (Poppies & Peonies).
This outfit would be great for a casual Friday in the office, running errands on the weekend or a casual night out.
This one is a nod to spring/summer. I’ve layered the Mango coat over this red, silk romper (Zara) with black, pointy-toed boots (Steve Madden), cream shoulder bag (Selena clutch with dinky chain by Coach) and gold and black leather watch (Berg & Betts)
I love how well this coat goes with bright colors. The length of the coat pairs perfectly with the shorts on this romper. This is a great combo for when it’s still to cold to wear the romper with bare arms and the romper can be worn over black tights or nylons for a bit of extra warmth.
This is a full-on neutral look; cream, embroidered blouse over black, cropped leggings (Dynamite), black pumps (ASOS), black and gold handbag (Tory Burch), gold and black leather watch (Berg & Betts), gold chain (Value Village Thrift).
What I love about this coat is the way the subtle pattern can make a simple, neutral outfit a lot more interesting without being too over-the-top. Not everyone likes a bold pattern so this coat is a nice compromise. If you like color feel free to add a colored bag, blouse or bag to the look.
Here is another neutral look that’s perfect for spring. I layered the Mango coat over a cream, boho-style dress, with my Louis Vuitton BB, my gold Geox sneakers and my rose gold watch (Capitola).
This look is simple but has a big impact. Perfect for the office, a date night or attending a spring/summer music festival)
This is a great spring “uniform”. A simple black camisole (Joe Fresh) worn over white, straight-leg trousers (Club Monaco). I added a pair of black pumps (ASOS) a rose gold belt (Value Village Thrift), blush, leather tote bag (AI Toronto) and rose gold watch (Capitola).
The blush bag is a nice subtle pop of color to this neutral look. You can a small bits of color to a look like this with your accessories to keep things interesting while staying minimal. This is a great outfit for the office, an important meeting, or a casual event.
This one is my absolute favorite of all the looks. I was looking for a way to incorporate this bright orange skirt (Mango) that wouldn’t be too overwhelming to the eye. Pairing with the Mango coat, a cream blouse (Mango) black ankle boots (Steve Madden), gold and black leather watch (Berg & Betts) and cream shoulder bag (Selena bag with dinky chain by Coach) was the perfect balance for this bright skirt.
This outfit is amazing for the office, a date night or Sunday brunch. For a bolder impact try adding a coloured blouse like pink or purple. You can also add some leopard print shoes or boots to step things up a notch.
