Style Challenge Update: January

Berg and Betts

The first month of my 2018 Project Quality Over Quantity style challenge has come to an end! It was a great learning experience for me; being a bit of an impulse shopper, it is very rare for me to plan my purchases ahead of time and even more rare for me to save up the money for a splurge item.

The part I found to be difficult was not necessarily the lack of shopping but in deciding which item I would spend my money on at the end of January. About midway through the month, I decided that I would run my first-ever giveaway on my Instagram account. The item that I decided to buy was a watch but the decision on which brand to buy took a bit longer. I wanted the watch to be of high quality while still being relatively affordable. I wanted to choose a company that was preferably Canadian (love supporting the local economy!) and I also wanted this company to have sustainable practices in their supply chain (buying consciously is something I am trying to do more of).

Berg and Betts

During my search for sustainable watch brands, I came across Canadian company Berg+Betts. They believe that style shouldn’t be sacrificed in the name of sustainability, through their products they provide an eco-friendly alternative which is both sophisticated and affordable. Source . The bands of each watch are crafted (in Canada) from surplus leather cut offs which would otherwise be thrown away and which are sourced from factories around the world.

All watched are designed and assembled in Canada and watch parts are ethically produced in the Chinese city of Dongguan. All of their suppliers are members of SEDEX (Sedex is a not for profit, membership organization which is dedicated to driving improvements in ethical and responsible business practices in global supply chains. Although their products are not vegan, (which I know is important to some folks out there) this company checks many of the boxes I am trying to incorporate into my shopping ethos and supporting local and Canadian companies is definitely at the top of my list.

During a recent photoshoot (with my sister of Megan Cameron Photography)I took the opportunity to shoot photos wearing the amazing “Original Round” black and gold watch that I purchased from Berg + Betts (as my January item for the challenge) and also to photograph the beautiful rose gold and pink watch that I purchased for my giveaway on Instagram (head over to my Instagram @fashionmamaaquarius to enter! Contest is open to residents of Canada only, must be 18 years of age or older to enter.) The also have a square version called “the Classic” and “the Classic Double”, as well as gift sets which include two watches for just $50 over the price of one!

Looking ahead to February’s challenge I am looking into buying a new pair of shoes, a belt or perhaps some new quality jewelry. I’ll be on the hunt for local, sustainable and ethical brands as much as possible so don’t hesitate to let me know in the comments below, your favorite clothing and accessories brands!

**Note: this is not a sponsored post both watches were purchased by me with my own funds. These are my own opinions after trying the products.

Until next time!
