Finally, spring has hit Ottawa! Its been slow to come, but we're finally getting some warm weather and I've busted out my sandals and shorts. I've also been busy for the last fee days compiling a list of my picks for this season's must-have skirts. I am a lover of dresses but I also really love skirts because skirts are a bit more versatile than dresses, in that you can mix and match them with a variety of different tops. I've even worn a dress as a shirt tucked into a skirt (stealthy, I know!).
Right now it seems like there are no rules when it comes to skirt trends, whether maxi-long or über short; solid colored or patterned; leather or silk, you can do no wrong for spring/summer 2014. One common theme that I noticed and liked in a good number of the spring ready-to-wear runways shows was skirts a tiered effect or a transparent layer (such as tulle, lace or chiffon) that goes past the original skirt hem. Some of the designers who embraced this look were Richard Nicoll, Rebecca Minkoff, Rag & Bone, No. 21, Marchesa, Jill Stuart, Isabel Marant, Honor, Erdem, Burberry Prorsum and the list goes on.
At the risk of sounding sentimental, I just loved looking at all the beautiful skirts that are out there! I have attempted to include skirt options for all price ranges because let's be honest, as much as we would all love a $1,500 floral printed Prabel Gurag skirt, we don't all have a limitless clothing budget (my win-the-lotto-fingers are always crossed though)
In an attempt at regularity for my posts I will be trying out a schedule of Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, but with a toddler running me ragged this may be a challenge so wish me luck!
