On Going Back to Work and Updating my Wardrobe

Wouldn't it be nice if maternity leaves didn't have to end? In a perfect world we would be able to be stay at home moms (if one would so choose) and it wouldn't affect our home finances at all! Alas, this is not the 1950's and we are not in the twilight zone.

As my return date looms (July) and I think about going back to my job, I am filled with a mix of feelings, both excitement (because I love my job) and sadness (because I want to be with my daughter every day as she grows up). I am looking forward to getting back to my old routine, socializing with adults and going for runs on my lunch hour. Another thing that has me itching to go back is the fashion. I love dressing up for work and since I've spent the better part of the last year in jeans and a t-shirt or leggings and a sweater, this will be a welcome change of pace.

My wardrobe these days is a disgrace. As most new mothers will know, your body changes after having kids and clothes that used to fit or used to look good, are no longer going to cut it. So the answer to this dilemma is always my favorite thing to hear; I guess you'll have to go shopping for a new wardrobe......

Lately I've been combing the Fall RTW fashions shows on Style.com, trying to decide what kind of look I'm going for, how can I stretch my budget to include as many quality items as possible and that those items will incorporate well with my existing (albeit slim) selection of office attire. In the past I have spent way too much money (in the long run of course) on cheap clothing that either falls apart, gets ruined in the wash or is too trendy to last long in my wardrobe. I have vowed to turn over a new leaf and only buy classic, quality pieces that will stand the test of time and the laundry monster (that would be my fiancĂ©). One thing I have yet to decide is which store or stores do I choose? Do I go with one store and have a sense of cohesion in the pieces I choose? Or do I spend more time to select pieces that will work together from different stores? Tough decision. I've always wanted to go to one store and drop my whole budget on a shopping spree in just that one store, so maybe this should be the occasion. As for the lucky store, there are a few to choose from; Zara, Mango, Club Monaco, Aritzia and Banana Republic come to mind when I think of quality clothing at fairly reasonable pricing.

It is my hope that both my daughter and I are able to adjust well to this transition and that we are able to move forward with our new routine. New wardrobe or not going back to work won't be easy by any means but at least with the new outfits I will look good while I adapt to life as a working mother.

Until next time!
